The FAA temporarily halted flights to New York and Philadelphia airports Saturday afternoon after an air traffic controller trainee tested positive for the coronavirus.

It impacted flights to LaGuardia, John F. Kennedy International, and Newark Liberty airports along with regional airports.

The order was lifted after about 30 minutes. It also affected Philadelphia International Airport.

The FAA said in a statement they contacted local health authorities and were developing a plan to quick sanitize and clean the affected areas in the New York air route traffic control center.

The LaGuardia control tower was closed overnight for sanitization.
