The first Star Wars movie set outside of the film trilogies has been announced.
"'Rogue One' is the title for the first film in a unique series of big-screen adventures that explores the characters and events beyond the core Star Wars saga," Disney announced on StarWars.com.
While the announcement didn't mention plot details, Rogue Squadron is an elite fighter group in the Rebel Alliance — the good guys.
The cast includes Felicity Jones, who was nominated this year for an Academy Award in the Stephen Hawking biopic "The Theory of Everything."
"Rogue One" will begin shooting this summer and is set to release on Dec. 16, 2016. That's between The Force Awakens (Episode VII) and the unnamed Episode VIII.
