SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — The U.S. Coast Guard said it was searching late Wednesday for a person who reportedly went overboard a Royal Caribbean cruise ship just off Puerto Rico’s north shore.

Oasis of the Seas was chartered for a weeklong cruise from Fort Lauderdale by Atlantis, which produces gay and lesbian cruises and resort vacations.

Eight years ago, a passenger went overboard from the cruise line's Allure of the Seas during an Atlantis cruise, according to Cruise Law News.

Coast Guard spokesman Ricardo Castrodad told The Associated Press the vessel was in San Juan Bay when the event occurred.

The person being searched for was not identified and no further details were immediately available.

A spokesperson for Royal Caribbean could not be immediately reached for comment.
