A Maryland man who was known for dressing as Batman and visiting hospitalized children was killed Sunday night when he was hit by a car.
Highway patrol investigators told the Associated Press that Leonard Robinson, 51, was checking the engine of his Batmobile — a customized Lamborghini — on Interstate 70 when a Toyota Camry hit him and his parked vehicle. Robinson's Batmobile had apparently broken down.
The 39-year old driver of the Camry was not hurt, according to Baltimore's WMAR-TV. Robinson was not wearing his Batman costume when the crash happened, according to police.
Fans of Robinson's charity work mourned his death. On Monday afternoon, LifeBridge Health, a hospital network in the Baltimore area, tweeted condolences to Robinson's loved ones.
Our condolences to the family, friends and fans of Lenny “Batman” Robinson, who spent his life lifting the spirits of others. #wearebatman
