California, a major national avocado supplier, has had a poor growing year.

With the season coming to a close, suppliers were hoping for some relief from growers in Mexico but there are not enough avocados being picked south of the border to meet demand.

According to data from the Hass Avocado Board, the number of avocados California is receiving from Mexico is dropping dramatically by the week.

The surge is not just affecting shoppers, it's also affecting restaurants.
