(NBC) - An alligator surprised beachgoers Wednesday in Texas.
Galveston police were called around 7 a.m. to Galveston beach with a report of a nearly 10-foot long alligator.
The department, along with the Galveston Island Beach Patrol, worked to pull the large reptile to shore.
With additional help from the Texas Parks and Wildlife, they were able to tape the gator's mouth shut, tie its legs together and take it to a wildlife rehabilitation center.
A spokesman for the police department said alligators can make their way into the Gulf when there is heavy rain, and it probably ended up on the beach when the tide receded.
