(CNN) - Federal agents make a surprising four-wheel find in Los Angeles.

Officials found a 1981 Ferrari GTSI that was stolen more than 28 years ago from a Southern California lot.

The car was set to be shipped to Poland when agents noticed something unusual.

They learned the Ferrari’s vehicle identification number was the same as another one that was shipped to Norway a decade ago.

It's not clear who was shipping and receiving the car.

As far as the recovered Ferrari goes, it may be 35 years old, but it only has 45,000 miles on it.

It's estimated to be worth around $50,000.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection said the Ferrari was stolen from a car consignment lot in Orange County, Calif., on July 19, 1987.

Agents said the owner was compensated by his insurance company when it was stolen and wishes to remain anonymous.
