FORT PIERCE, Fla. — A Fort Pierce man is facing a manslaughter charge after a 34-year-old man died following a BB gun shooting on August 22, 2026.
Fort Pierce Police officers responded to the 2900 block of Avenue G following reports of a gunshot victim. Upon arrival, officers located the 34-year-old male suffering from an injury. The victim was transported to Lawnwood Hospital, where he later died.
The initial investigation revealed that a group of males had been shooting a BB gun at trees when the suspect, Jabari Cowart, 36, asked to use the BB gun. During the interaction, Cowart reportedly pointed the BB gun in the victim's direction and fired. Shortly thereafter, the victim collapsed.
Cowart was subsequently charged with manslaughter and taken to the St. Lucie County Jail.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
