STUART, Fla. -- A special bond between a special needs student and a Martin County Sheriff's deputy led to a big birthday surprise in Stuart.

Ady calls herself a "brave dragon". Her family moved to Stuart six months ago from Indiana so she could receive treatment at the Paley Institute in West Palm Beach. It's a facility known around the world for treating patients with bone and joint conditions.

"She has personality, strongest determination, made all these friends since August," said Brittany Moriarity, Ady's mother.

Ady's 7th birthday is in a few weeks, but Saturday, her family and some special friends from the Martin County Sheriff's Office decided to throw her an early birthday party.

Ady was especially excited to see one face in particular. Deputy Reese Heeter met Ady the first day of school.

"I walked her to class, immediately picked up on her attitude toward life and I knew it was amazing. Her and I clicked and became really good friends," said Deputy Heeter.

Ady needs extensive back and leg surgeries over the next three to four years.

Deputy Heeter arranged to give Ady a day she won't soon forget.

Ady's family also wanted to thank all the members of Martin County Fire-Rescue who showed up, and Big Apple Pizza for their donations.

Ady's first surgery is set for October 21st.
