MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. -- Authorities say a man trying to cross I-95 in Martin County Wednesday morning died when a vehicle struck him.
Just after 5:30, 21-year-old Allen R. Narcisse of Port St. Lucie ran from east to west across the southbound travel lanes of the interstate at the 106 mile marker, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Narcisse entered the path of a woman who was heading south in a Volkswagen, FHP said.
Her car's bumper, hood and windshield ended up striking the pedestrian who was thrown to the ground, traffic investigators said.
The driver pulled over and Narcisse came to rest on an outside lane, an FHP report said.
The collision backed up traffic for a couple of hours.
The Florida Highway Patrol initially said Narcisse was from Loxahatchee. It said the case is still pending an investigation.
