The Chevrolet Impala remains top pick for a new large car and the Chevrolet Cruze is now top pick for a new compact car, a spot that had been held by the Subaru Impreza for the past few years.

Top small SUV goes to the Subaru Forester and compact pickup goes to the Honda Ridgeline, while top compact hybrid went to the Toyota Prius and top subcompact car went the Toyota Yaris IA.

The Mazda MX-5 Miata gets top sports car, the Kia Optima gets top mid-sized sedan, the Audi Q7 was named tops for luxury SUV.

Top mid-sized SUV went to the Toyota Highlander.

In making its list, Consumer Reports factored in reliability, owner satisfaction, road-test performance, and safety.
