Kate Wentzel joined the WPTV First Alert weather team in March 2021.
She returns to WPTV after first working at NewsChannel 5 as an assignment desk editor in the late 1990s.
Born in San Diego, Kate spent most of her childhood in the Midwest, both in the suburbs of Cleveland and Chicago.
Kate first came to the area to attend Palm Beach Atlantic University in downtown West Palm Beach, where she graduated Cum Laude from the honors program. She then enrolled in Mississippi State University's broadcast meteorology program, graduating in 2002.
Kate went on to earn both the American Meteorology Society Seal of Approval and the National Weather Association Seal of Approval.
Kate spent time in multiple markets, including Miami, Tampa, Tallahassee, Santa Barbara and Los Angeles; as well as the ABC and CBS affiliates in West Palm Beach.
After moving around the country, Kate is happy to be in South Florida and enjoys living in the only truly tropical climate in the continental United States.
When not at work, you can find Kate out and about enjoying our beautiful weather -- on her paddleboard, playing pickleball or participating in sprint triathlons.
