What is closed because of Hurricane Matthew

CLOSINGS: PALM BEACH COUNTY

  • Palm Beach County Schools are closed Thursday, Oct. 6 and Friday, Oct. 7. All schools will be in session Wednesday. All after school activities scheduled for Wednesday through Sunday have been canceled. The School Board meeting scheduled for Wednesday is canceled. The district has also canceled all student travel for any school-related field trip or athletic event in or out of the district that was planned for this Wednesday through Sunday. All activities associated with the 20th annual Walk (or Bike) to School Day scheduled for Wednesday. The district will provide updates if events are rescheduled.
  • Due to Hurricane Matthew, the following will go into effect for all FAU campuses:
    All classes are canceled beginning Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 3 p.m. through Sunday, Oct. 9; any instructional time missed during these days will be made up later in the semester
    Fall Break, scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 10-11, will continue
    Regular classes will resume Wednesday, Oct. 12
    All non-athletic events are canceled through Sunday, Oct. 9; Athletics will communicate game schedules as they become available
    All offices are closed beginning Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 3 p.m., through Sunday, Oct. 9, with the exception of essential services
    All residence halls on all campuses remain open to resident students
    •Only resident students and essential personnel should be on campus after 3 p.m. Wednesday
    FAU will provide periodic updates. Students, faculty and staff should monitor all communication channels, including the FAU homepage at www.fau.edu, the University advisory page, the FAU hotline 1-888-8FAUOWL (832-8695), email, text, phone and local media outlets. 
  • Rosarian Academy closed Wednesday, Oct. 5 to give faculty and families adequate time to prepare their homes and evacuate if that becomes necessary. School will also be closed Thursday, Oct. 6 and Friday, Oct. 7. 
  • The Boca Delray Campus of American Heritage High School has canceled classes for Thursday, Oct. 6. All after-school activities have been canceled, starting tomorrow. All athletic events, including Friday's football game are also canceled.
  • Palm Beach Atlantic has canceled Thursday and Friday classes and activities in West Palm Beach.
  • For Pine Crest (Prep) School in Boca Raton and Fort Lauderdale, all after-school activities have been canceled for Wednesday, Oct. 5. School will be closed on Thursday, Oct. 6 and Friday, Oct. 7. 
  • St. Paul Lutheran School, Boca Raton will be closed Thursday, Oct. 6 and Friday, Oct. 7. 
  • Planet Kids at Wellington and Wellington Preparatory School will be closed  Oct. 6th and 7th.
  • Tri-County Animal Rescue will be closed to the public on Thursday, Oct. 6 and most likely Friday, Oct. 7.
  • ALL Nova Southeastern University campuses throughout Florida and Puerto Rico will close at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 5, and re-open with normal operations on Monday, October 10.  
  • Lake Worth Christian School will be closed Thursday, Oct. 6 and Friday, Oct. 7. The school will be open on Wednesday, Oct. 5 but all after-school activities are canceled.
  • Spanish River Christian School will be closed Thursday, Oct. 6 and Friday, Oct. 7. The school will be open on Wednesday, Oct. 5.
  • Jupiter Christian School will be closed on Wednesday, Oct. 5 to prepare for the impending storm. The administration will follow up on Wednesday at 12 p.m. with an update to the status of school Thursday and Friday.
  • Gulf Stream School will close at 2:20 p.m. Wednesday and remain closed on Thursday and Friday. 
  • Tri Rail is closed Thursday, Oct. 6 and Friday, Oct. 7. Customer service will be closed as well.
  • To prepare for the potential impact from Hurricane Matthew, the Town of Jupiter will close its normal operations at noon on Wednesday, Oct. 5. The town will evaluate the status of its facilities once the storm passes, and reopen as soon as it is able to do so.
  • Palm Beach Zoo is closed Thursday, Oct. 6.
  • The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services in West Palm Beach, located at 9300 Belvedere Rd., is closed Thursday, Oct. 6, and Friday, Oct. 7.  Those with appointments will receive notification of a new appointment date. For more information, visit www.uscis.gov. 
  • All Catholic Charities offices will be closed starting at noon Wednesday, which includes offices in Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, St. Francis Center in Riviera Beach, St. Mary Center in Pahokee, Palm Beach and Stuart, Oct. 6 & 7: All Catholic Charities offices will be closed. This includes our offices in Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, St. Francis Center in Riviera Beach, St. Mary Center in Pahokee, Palm Beach and Stuart, as well our as Administrative Office at the Pastoral Center in Palm Beach Gardens. Additionally the Catholic Charities offices will be closed on Monday, Oct. 10, in observance of Columbus Day Holiday.
  • All City of Boca Raton facilities and offices will close at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 5 through Monday, Oct. 11.
  • Due to Hurricane Matthew, Mounts Botanical Garden is postponing the official groundbreaking for Windows on the Floating World: Tropical Wetland Garden that had been scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 3 p.m. Mounts will announce the date of a rescheduled groundbreaking at a later time.
  • Due to Hurricane Matthew, the eighth annual Southeast Florida Regional Climate Leadership Summit scheduled for Oct. 5 and 6 at the Palm Beach County Convention Center has been postponed. A new date for the two-day summit will be announced in the future.
  • The Fall Home & Design Show at the Palm Beach County Convention Center has been postponed to Oct. 14 to Oct.16
  • Palm Beach County Courts will close Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 1 p.m., and therefore the Clerk & Comptroller will also close at that time. All Clerk & Comptroller offices will remain closed on Thursday, October 6. Friday, October 7 remains undetermined. 
  • Jury duty will be canceled on Wednesday, Oct. 5 and Thursday, Oct 6.
  • AVDA's Race for Hope has been postponed until Dec. 3 due to the hurricane. 
  • Boynton Beach Mall has rescheduled its seasonal holiday job fair to Thursday, Oct. 20, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Gold Coast Federal Credit Union will be closed Thursday, October 7th. 

CLOSINGS: ST. LUCIE COUNTY

  • St. Lucie Public Schools will follow an early release schedule on Wednesday, Oct. 5.  There will be no after-school activities.  This includes the cancelation of all athletic events. 
  • All schools will be closed on Thursday, Oct. 6 and Friday, Oct. 7.  All before-school and after-school activities and athletic events are canceled on these days as well. Schools will re-open on Monday, Oct. 10.  
  • John Carroll High School will be closed on Wednesday, Oct. 5 from noon to 3 p.m., and all day Thursday, Oct. 6 and Friday, Oct. 7. All after school activities will be canceled on Wednesday, Oct. 5, Thursday, Oct. 6 and Friday, Oct. 7
  • Friday Fest in Fort Pierce has been postponed to Oct. 10.
  • The St. Lucie County Tax Collector's office will close on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at noon. The offices will remain closed Thursday, Oct. 6 and Friday, Oct. 7. Both office locations plan to reopen Monday, Oct. 10 at 9 a.m.

CLOSINGS: MARTIN COUNTY

  • Martin County Public Schools will follow an early release schedule on Wednesday, Oct. 5.  There will be no after-school activities.  This includes the cancelation of all athletic events. 
  • All schools will be closed on Thursday, Oct. 6 and Friday, Oct. 7.  All before-school and after-school activities and athletic events are canceled on these days as well.
  • Schools will re-open on Monday, Oct. 10.

CLOSINGS: INDIAN RIVER COUNTY

  • Indian River School District will follow an early release schedule on Wednesday, Oct. 5. All after school activities will be canceled on Wednesday.  All Indian River County schools and school-related activities are canceled Thursday, Oct. 6th and Friday, Oct. 7th.
  • Indian River State College will close all campuses at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 5 and all classes and activities will be canceled. Wednesday classes beginning at 4 p.m., will end by 5:30 p.m. Indian River State College will be closed on Thursday, Oct. 6 and Friday, Oct. 7. 
  • IRSC will re-open for the normal schedule of classes and services on Monday, Oct. 10. 
  • The Fellsmere City Council meeting on Thursday has been canceled. The Oct. 6 and Oct. 20 agendas will be combined on Oct. 13. 

CLOSINGS: OKEECHOBEE COUNTY

  • Due to the anticipated weather systems associated with Hurricane Matthew, Okeechobee County Schools will be closed Thursday, October 6th and Friday, October 7th. 
  • Peace Lutheran School in Okeechobee will be closed Thursday, Oct. 6 and Friday, Oct. 7.
