On This Day In History
Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh cut off the lower part of his left ear with a razor Dec. 23, 1888, while staying in Arles, France. The painter, who was suffering from depression, later documented the event in a painting titled Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear.
