HAVANA (AP) -- It's said to be one of Fidel Castro's favorite photographs of himself: a full-length, side view of the young revolutionary with uniform and backpack, looking out into the distance from eastern Cuba's Sierra Maestra mountains.

At Havana's Jose Marti Memorial, thousands of mourners filed by the portrait by the late Cuban photographer Alberto Korda (1928-2001) as they paid their respects to Castro, who died Friday. The black-and-white image was also displayed prominently elsewhere around the Cuban capital.

Korda took a number of well-known photographs of Castro, but he was probably best known for his image of Argentine-born revolutionary Ernesto "Che" Guevara, wearing a dark beret and a fixed stare.
