MIAMI (AP) — Police in South Florida say a 28-year-old drifter with a history of petty arrests has confessed to killing a University of Miami architecture student.

The Miami Herald reports Robert Wayne Gore has been charged with first-degree murder and armed burglary in the death of 23-year-old Yasser Talal Ibrahim Abualfaraj, who was found fatally stabbed in his apartment on Oct. 7.

Miami-Dade police detectives found Gore on Wednesday and spent the evening questioning him. The Herald reports police found DNA matches on a beer can and clothes found inside the apartment. They also found surveillance video of the suspect wearing clothes that were found in the apartment. Police say he changed clothes after the killing.

An arrest affidavit says Abualfaraj was stabbed over 60 times.

A lawyer isn't listed on jail records.
