NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- A family says thieves stole their pricey pet parrot from their North Miami Beach home.

Local news outlets report the $8,000 sulfur-crescent cockatoo was taken from the backyard of the residence Sept. 16.

Authorities say two men were caught on surveillance cameras sneaking into the backyard, where they made off with the cage containing the bird named Booper.

Bopper's owner, Santina Castillo, says the bird, who loves music and likes to dance, was more than just a pet to them -- he was part of their family.

Booper's white with yellow crested feathers on his head and under his wings. He also has a ring around his ankle, and he knows his name.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
