Port St. Lucie police are looking for a man and woman caught on camera smashing into a pawn store early Tuesday morning with a pickaxe and stealing thousands in jewelry.

At around 4 a.m., officers went to the Jewelry Pawn Store, located at 2868 SW Port St. Lucie Blvd., for reports of an active burglary alarm.

When they arrived, officers found the front door to the store smashed in.

Video surveillance from Jewelry Pawn Store at 2:53 a.m. revealed that a light-skinned man and woman, dressed in all black with their faces covered, broke into the store.  The man was seen using a pickaxe to bust in the reinforced front glass door while the woman acts as a look-out.

Once inside store, the man used the pickaxe to smash the glass jewelry display case and steal $8,000 to $12,000.

Police and a St. Lucie County Sheriff's K-9 team said they tracked the burglars’ movements to the corner of SW Brighton Street and SW Eureka Avenue.

At that location, investigations found fresh tire tracks at the street corner.  They said they believe the duo got into a vehicle waiting for them and fled the scene.

At 7 a.m., police were then called to One World International Caribbean Restaurant, located at 3961 SW Port St. Lucie Blvd., after a reported burglary.

An officer arrived and found the front glass door of the restaurant was smashed and the cash register drawer, containing about $250, was stolen.

Police found marks left by the tool used to break into the restaurant to be similar to the break-in at Jewelry Pawn Store.

If you can help in the case, call the Port St. Lucie Police Department at (772) 871-5001 or Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-800-273 TIPS.
