Five people are under arrest after a stolen car was recovered Monday in Port St. Lucie.

The St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office received a Lojack notification on a stolen vehicle just before noon.

When deputies attempted to stop the black Chevy Malibu, the suspects fled, ending up on Selvitz Road.

OnStar was able to disable the vehicle remotely causing it to stop in the 6500 block of Chugwater Circle in Port St. Lucie.

Sheriff Ken J. Mascara confirmed that the vehicle was a stolen Avis rental vehicle that was occupied by five people. Mascara says deputies found jewelry that is believed to have been stolen, as well as narcotics inside the car.

According to Sheriff Mascara, the car was rented out of Hallandale where two of the five occupants lived. One occupant is a Fort Pierce resident and two are from Port St. Lucie.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending, Mascara said.

If anyone has information about jewelry that may have been recently stolen from their home, they are urged to call the Criminal Investigation Division at 772-462-3230.
