The Florida Highway Patrol has identified the driver of a vehicle that was found in the water along I-95 Monday morning.
John Dale Lewis, 52, of Fort Pierce, was traveling north when he veered off the road and struck a light pole south of the Indrio Road exit, FHP said.
His Kia Sportage overturned and came to rest on its roof, and submerged in the water, according to traffic investigators.
Another driver spotted the wreckage about 8:25 a.m.
Fire rescue crews and the sheriff's office helped pull the vehicle upright, the St. Lucie County Fire District said.
Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
