The West Nile Virus has been detected on the Treasure Coast.
Health officials say it was found in sentinel chickens in the Hobe Sound/Jupiter Island area.
It was also found within rural areas of St. Lucie County.
Mosquito activity has also been elevated along North and South Hutchinson Islands in recent weeks, according to the St. Lucie County Health Department.
Health officials are urging people to use protection from mosquitoes when outside.
