A Martin County Sheriff’s Office deputy used some quick thinking to stop a runaway truck and save a 70-year-old driver.
The sheriff’s office says the driver called 911 when her brakes stopped working.
Deputy Steve Beatty was able to catch up to her on State Road 710 in Indiantown.
Using his phone he gave her directions on how to stop the vehicle.
The driver was eventually able to remove the keys but the engine did not shut off and the truck continued to move.
The deputy performed a pit maneuver, a technique that turns a vehicle and forces it to stop.
Neither the deputy nor woman was hurt.
The truck and patrol car have minor damage.
