Many homeowners at Deer Run Community in Loxahatchee are horse owners.

"They're like children," says Angela Downey.

She owns three. Pamela Faber from Boca Raton boards hers there as well. Both were concerned over an email informing them of two missing mini horses in the community. They were later safely recovered.

"We're worried about it," says Downey.

The worry comes from a story WPTV first brought you on Wednesday. Several suspicious people lurking near horses not too far from Deer Run Community.

"Only place you can have horses. I guess the poachers know that," says Downey.

Dave Orfinger knows the illegal sale of horse meat is popular in the black market.

He's taking the precautions with his own horses.

"We're double checking our cameras even more now to make sure there isn't a problem when we're not around."

Angela plans to do the same.

"Cameras, locks, lights maybe. Lights that turn on."

The sheriff's office encourages people to report any suspicious activity.
