(NBC) - Tornadoes ripped through parts of Virginia Monday leaving behind a path of destruction.
Cellphone video captured in Richmond showed a dark funnel cloud forming over a building before sheering off the roof.
Debris was sent flying through the air.
A tornado was also spotted outside of the University of Richmond.
The storms impacted the school day and after school activities for Mecklenburg County public schools.
At least four schools closed early.
