(CNN NEWSOURCE) On this day (October 28, 2016) 130-years ago, President Grover Cleveland dedicated the Statue of Liberty.

France gifted Lady Liberty to the United States.

The monument sits on Liberty Island in New York Harbor and serves as a universal symbol of freedom and democracy.

The Statue of Liberty is influenced by Libertas, the Roman goddess of freedom.

Her tablet represents the book of law and is inscribed with the date the U.S. declared independence-- July 4th, 1776.
