WELLINGTON, Fla. — Jessica Zolla and her daughter, Giannella, sometimes ride their bikes on the sidewalk in their Wellington community.

"I think it's a good idea that they put in bike lanes," said Giannella Zolla.

That's part of the plan from the Village of Wellington, which would also improve road drainage.

But to make way, the village could have to remove up to 360 tall palm trees, many of them on Aero Club Drive.

"I am agreeing with the bike trail because it's awesome to have them, but I actually would not like to have the trees removed," said Jessica Zolla.

"I feel that the palm trees are a trademark for Florida," said Giannella Zolla.

Assistant Planning, Zoning, and Building Director Michael O'Dell said there are several plans in the works.

"They basically situate themselves with one leaving the palm trees as they are but putting curb and gutter on both sides of the bicycle lanes," said O'Dell. "The second option would be to remove some of those trees. The last one would be to remove the trees as they are right now and reinstall new landscaping, irrigation."

The grant money will be available next year. Now is the time for the community to voice their concerns about the future 6.5-mile bicycle loop.

"If the residents would voice their opinions on the survey which we have online right now, that would give us an idea of what the residents would like to see," said O'Dell.
