DAVIE, Fla. (AP) -- Cornerback Byron Maxwell has been released by the Miami Dolphins, who signed David Fales to reinforce depth at quarterback.
With Jay Cutler nursing cracked ribs, Fales is expected to back up Matt Moore in Thursday's game at Baltimore.
Fales was with the Dolphins in training camp and cut before the season. He was drafted by the Chicago Bears in 2014, but has never thrown a pass in an NFL game.
Maxwell, a seven-year veteran, lost his starting job to rookie Cordrea Tankersley before Game 3 and had been inactive the past four weeks. His salary this season was $8.5 million, and his release frees up significant salary cap room.
