MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla.-- Miami Dade Fire Rescue responded to the type of call that they don't receive often, but they were certainly up to the task.
Reports of a pelican in distress near the Miami arena got the attention of a Miami-Dade fireboat crew over the weekend.
When the fireboat crew arrived they saw the injured pelican still swimming in the water.
It had a noticeable injury to its left wing, but the frightened bird initially wouldn't allow the crew too close to help.
After several attempts, the crew was finally able to get the bird out of the water.
Its left wing was broken so the crew carefully held the bird and transported it to the Pelican Harbor Seabird Station for treatment.
