Shots were fired on a busy South Florida highway Sunday afternoon and police are searching for the people responsible.

“I just know that I was driving and then I heard a shot. And I just swerved and I hit them first and then I just tried to take control of the car,” said Rochelle Moraes, the victim in this incident.

Moraes was driving on I-95 south of Commercial Blvd. near Oakland Park with her boyfriend and 6-year-old stepson. Officials said someone in a maroon SUV fired a shot at her vehicle, later causing a crash on the highway with a red Ford Mustang.

“It could’ve killed me, but it didn’t,” said Moraes. “God spared me, so I’m just blessed.”

The 6-year-old boy was taken to the hospital to get checked out but is expected to be okay.

“He was just scared. Just like any other 6-year-old. But he’s strong, he’s good, he’s okay,” said Moraes.

The victim said she’s unsure why someone would shoot at her car. However, a witness told her the maroon SUV sped up to her vehicle.

“I didn’t cut nobody off. I don’t know why I would be targeted. I’m not nobody to be a target. I’m not special enough, so I don’t know,” said Moraes.

A criminal investigation is now underway.
