The head chef at a Florida restaurant chased a purse snatcher out of the restaurant and tackled him until police arrived.

It all happened at Nevermind Awesome Bar & Eatery in Cape Coral, Fla., late last week.

Andres Arroyo is the head chef who spends most of his time in the kitchen, but he was ready to throw down the pots and pans Friday when a robber took off with a woman's purse.

"They were getting ready to get seated when this guy came in with his hoodie on," Arroyo said.

The guy he's referring to is Christopher Collier, according to Cape Coral police.

"As soon as he saw the purse, he turned around, snatched it from her, and started running through the back door," Arroyo said.

Arroyo took off, chasing after him.

"He didn't even wait for the light or anything. He just took off running and crossed in front of cars," Arroyo said.

Arroyo and his friend jumped into the car to follow him.

"Then we saw him hiding behind a truck. He had the lady's cellphone in his hands and some cash, so I jumped out of the car and started chasing him," he said.

He chased Collier to Paradise Pizza a quarter mile away.

"I tackled him down and put him in a headlock until police arrived," Arroyo said.

He said the woman was very grateful for his quick actions.

"She bought me a couple of shots and a couple beers, and we were just having a blast in the back talking," Arroyo said. "Feels good to do a good deed for somebody."

The woman's purse, keys and German passport were found behind the Dunkin' Donuts a few blocks away. She said she's missing money and her cellphone was broken during the incident. She also told police Collier asked her "how do you do" before snatching the purse.
