TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida legislators have failed yet again to reach a long-sought-after agreement on gambling.

Senate President Joe Negron announced Wednesday legislators will not be holding a special session this year on gambling.

Last month, top Republicans started holding private talks about the state's current deal with the Seminole Tribe of Florida and other gambling issues. The tribe operates several casinos in the state.

There was a fear that the tribe could end payments to the state. But tribal officials recently agreed to keep paying the state until May 2019.

Negron said that while top House and Senate Republicans reached an accord on many issues they were unable to agree on everything. Legislators have had trouble the last few years passing a gambling bill due to squabbles among different gambling interests.
