(NBC News) A truck driver in Massachusetts says he was towing nearly 12,000 gallons of gasoline when a bird flew into his cab and hit his head, causing him to swerve and hit a utility pole.

The incident, which happened April 21, in Bourne, Massachusetts, was captured on a police dash camera.

Video shows the tanker truck swerving out of control and taking out several telephone poles.

Police said they reviewed the video, but could not confirm the trucker's story.

The 63-year-old driver was cited for failure to stay within marked lanes and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.

Utility companies fixed the broken telephone poles as well as a damaged fire hydrant.
