Apple's event in San Francisco today delivered new details about the tech giant's soon-to-be released Apple Watch.

Surprises also included announcements about the new MacBook, the world's most energy-efficient, with a butterfly mechanism keyboard, contoured battery tech and trackpad technology, in addition to HBO Now and Apple's potential impact on the field of medical research.

The event kicked off with the announcement of HBO Now, to be released in early April. HBO Now will be available exclusively on Apple TV and in the App store in the U.S. The service will be $14.99 a month and include access to all TV and movie offerings past and present. For a limited time the first month will be free for those who sign up via an Apple device.

Today's event can be viewed on second- and third-generation Apple TV devices running software version 6.2 or later. This can be done by clicking on the "Apple Events" channel on the device's main menu.

Regarding the Apple Watch, first unveiled in September 2014 and slated for an April 10 pre-order date, plenty had been left unsaid.

Today's event answered pertinent questions for those ready to embrace the wearable tech, including price points for various models and how the device actually works.

The Apple Watch will require iOS 8.2, which is available for download today (March 9). Apple Watch's battery life is 18 hours.
