Perry shared a video on Twitter announcing that he paid off all the layaways at two Walmart stores on Dec. 7.

“I was trying to do this anonymously but due to some circumstances, y’all know nothing stays secret these days. So I just wanted to go ahead and tell you,” he said of those who were lucky enoug to have their items on laway paid off at locations items in East Point and Douglasville.

The actor said he knew the holidays can be financially difficult for many and wanted to lend a hand. “I know it’s a hard time, a lot of people are struggling and I’m just really, really grateful to be able to be in a position to do this,” Perry said in the video.

“God Bless, go get your stuff, Merry Christmas,” Perry said.

Perry’s gesture ended up covering purchases for about 1,500 people.

The reactions of some of the lucky recipients have already been recorded. According to CBS46, shoppers were in tears when they went to pick up their purchases at one of the Walmart stores and realized their purchase was paid off.

“My mom was crying because she didn’t know what she was going to do,” a young boy told the news outlet. He said he was more appreciative of the gesture than the actual gift, adding, “I’m more happy that my mom is feeling better.”

The store also took to Twitter to thank Perry: “Anonymous or not, we hope you know that you just made Christmas for so many families. You went above and beyond.”

In recent weeks, Secret Santas have paid off all layaway items in four other Walmart stores across the country — more than $130,000 as of Dec. 4.
