Nearly 12 years after the world-famous television personality and conservationist died, Steve Irwin was remembered with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

On Thursday, April 26, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce posthumously awarded the beloved Crocodile Hunter with the dedication of the 2,635th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the television category.

Irwin’s Family Tearfully Celebrates Star Honor

Irwin’s widow, Terri, and their children, Bindi and Robert, spoke at the ceremony honoring their late husband and father. Bindi became emotional during her speech.

“We try to continue Dad’s legacy each and every day, and we want to make sure everything he lived and died for continues on into the future,” Bindi said, before tearing up and embracing her mother.

Family Shares Thanks And Love With The World

“I’ll remember today forever. Such an emotional moment and beautiful chapter in our lives,” Bindi wrote on an Instagram post sharing a photo of the event.

Fourteen-year-old Robert posted, “It was a huge honour to unveil dad’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame today! It is truly incredible for Dad’s message and everything he was passionate about to be forever remembered here.”

Terri took to Twitter with a photo of the family holding a large snake and kneeling beside the star, writing, “A moment in time I’ll always remember. Steve received a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Couldn’t be more proud.”

Irwin died following a stingray attack in 2006. He was 44 years old.

Returning To Animal Planet

The Irwin family also plans to return to their patriarch’s beloved TV home, Animal Planet. The cable TV network will debut a new series set at the Irwin’s Australian Zoo complex. Mom, daughter and son pick right up this fall where Irwin left off.

The family shared with Today that the show is slated to start airing this fall.

“I hope he’d be proud,” Terri said during the interview, when asked about her family and the return to Animal Planet.
