Coldest night of the season

"It never gets cold in Florida," they say.

...wrong.

It's going to be a crank-up-the-heat kind of night for the state of Florida tonight.

From Pensacola to Jacksonville all the way to Miami, temperatures will be well below-average.

For all of us in South Florida -- no freezing temperatures, but it will certainly be cold.

It'll be the lowest the mercury on our thermometers has dropped since April 20, 2015.

That was the last time West Palm was below 50 degrees (low on the 20th was 38 degrees), and the last time Vero Beach was below 40 degrees (low on the 20th was 30 degrees).

Tuesday night in Southeast Florida will be in the 40s along the coast, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if we see some upper 30s sprinkled in across the interior and just north of the lake.

Oh, and by the way, according to the National Weather Service in Miami and Melbourne, we could have wind chills in the 20s and 30s in portions of South Florida.

So, yes, it does get cold in Florida.

It will warm up; the 80s will be back for highs going into the weekend. However, another front will arrive for the start of next week, and it could rival the cool down we've dealt with the first few days of this week.
