Video shows deputy being attacked after Orlando City soccer match

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP/WKMG/CNN) - Authorities say a Florida sheriff's deputy is recovering after he was injured while trying to break up a fight Sunday night between fans after the Orlando City soccer game.

The Orlando Sentinel reports the Orange County Sheriff's deputy was working extra duty for the Orlando Police Department at the team's home opening game.

WKMG reported that cellphone video of the fight was taken from inside a nearby building next to the soccer stadium.

 

A witness said a New York City FC fan got into an argument with an Orlando City fan. The deputy attempting to calm the situation but quickly found himself as the target.

The clip shows what appears to be someone physically striking the officer.

The deputy called for backup, prompting about 50 Orlando officer to respond to the scene.

Video shows the deputy being placed onto a stretcher after police said the officer suffered an injury to his leg.

It was the team's first game in its new stadium.  Orlando City defeated New York FC 1-0.
