The first six sailings out of Miami on Royal's Caribbean's Empress of the Seas ship have been canceled while the ship undergoes a makeover.

The sailings were scheduled to depart on March 30, April 4, April 7, April 11, April 16 and April 21 but were canceled as the ship undergoes renovations, the company said in a statement.

Upgrades to the ship include a rock-climbing wall, new pools and whirlpools, a steak house and faster Internet.

"Like many large renovation projects, we are going to need more time to ensure the ship meets the high standards for quality our guests expect from Royal Caribbean," the company's statement said.

Guests can change to another Empress of the Seas cruise between April 25 and July 23, and will receive a $100 per stateroom onboard credit. Guests who booked airfare through the company and transfer to another sailing will receive modified flights at no cost.
