SPRING HILL, Fla. - A Spring Hill man was arrested after police say he battered a woman, killed her kitten and threw her phone in the toilet.

The incident happened early Sunday morning. Police say Jacob Powell, 34, was intoxicated and became enraged after getting into an argument with a woman.

They say he pushed her to the floor and struck her head against the closet wall. He also grabbed her wrists and ankles, scratching her and causing injury.

During the fight, he got so angry, he killed the woman's 9-week-old kitten named Rajah. The woman tried to call 911, but the man grabbed her cell phone, smashed it on the floor and threw it in the toilet.

The woman's daughter saw all of it happen.

When the woman asked Powell what he did to the cat, he said "I was pissed off so I killed her."

Powell then left in a rental vehicle, where deputies later stopped him. He denied the battery and killing the kitten, but admitted to smashing the cell phone.

He was arrested and charged with domestic battery, tampering/harassing a witness/victim, and animal cruelty.
