Bank robbery suspect shot in officer-involved shooting in Hernando County, Florida

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. - The Florida Department of Law Enforcement alongside the Hernando County Sheriff's office is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Friday afternoon in Brooksville.

At approximately 12 p.m., deputies responded to Broad Street in Brooksville, a little bit north of Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd, according to Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhuis. 

According to officials, a suspect involved in a bank robbery led deputies on a chase in Brooksville. The sheriff says the bank robber had a possible hostage in the vehicle.

The suspect was shot by law enforcement officers and was transported to a local hospital.

Deputies report that the possible hostage does not have any injuries. None of the deputies were injured. 

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has been called in to investigate. Florida Highway Patrol is on scene investigating some of the crashes that occurred as the suspect ran and rammed into some vehicles.
