'Ollie,' pit bull found in Hollywood beaten, stabbed and stuffed in suitcase has died

A pit bull suffering from dozens of wounds and found stuffed in a suitcase in Hollywood, Florida, earlier this week has died.

A veterinarian at the VCA Hollywood Animal Hospital confirmed to NBC 6 that “Ollie” passed away Thursday night around 8:30 p.m.

"Our team of specialists, emergency doctors and staff worked for over an hour to keep Ollie with us," the hospital wrote in a message posted to Facebook. "His body simply could not overcome the inflammation and damage to his body caused by his horrific ordeal."

Police are still investigating the incident after someone called around 1 a.m. Tuesday morning to report finding the animal inside that suitcase on the 1900 block of Lee Street. Officers rushed the dog to a veterinary clinic, where it was determined the creature had been beaten and stabbed multiple times.

The case is "probably one of the worst abuse cases I've ever seen," Dr. Nicole Patterson, associate veterinarian at VCA, has said.

A GoFundMe account (WARNING YOU MIGHT FIND PICTURE ON GOFUNDME PAGE DISTURBING) had been set up to help pay for Ollie's medical bills, raising more than $40,000 so far.

PETA said it's offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads "to the arrest and conviction on cruelty-to-animals charges of the person or persons responsible for this heinous crime."
