The community gathered for a prayer walk in Belle Glade. Dozens are pushing for transparency in a deputy-involved shooting that left a 19-year-old dead two weeks ago.

Dozens of people marched three blocks to the corner where 19-year-old Henry Bennett lost list life. They held posters, candles and said prayers.

For the first time, Bennett's mom opened up about her son's death.

"I'm hurt," said Felicia Mitchell. "I feel like there's a hole in my heart. My son is missing. "Of course he wasn't perfect but he was 19-years-old and he still had time to grow but that's been taken away from him."

Bennet's father, spoke out, too. "I'm just looking for answers," said Henry Bennett II. "Since my son was shot down by the PBSO I haven't really slept at night."

A large crowd turned out earlier to remember Bennett and the others who have lost their lives to gun violence in the city. City leaders say enough is enough.

"Stop the violence," said Mayor Steve Wilson. "We gotta love each other, give the love. We cannot continue hurting each other like this."

On January 16, The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office says a deputy tried to pull over Bennett at a traffic stop on SW 9th Street and Avenue D. Investigators say that's when Bennett jumped from the car and pointed a gun at the deputy. Fearing for his life, PBSO says the deputy fired his gun striking Henry twice.

"I want PBSO to get on it as soon as possible," said Bennett II. "If it's justified let's come out with the facts that it's justified that way we can get this behind us."

Robert Mitchell, Bennett's uncle, added, "We believe that if our loved one has done anything that causes anything we can live with that," he said. "But what we will not accept is that we don't know facts and that we don't have transparency."

Ministers in the community organize prayer walks about every three months.

Both the State Attorney's Office and Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office are investigating the deputy-involved shooting.
