UPDATE:  Police say they have identified the struck pedestrian as 16-year-old Robert Griffey.

Authorities say they were finally able to identify the boy while canvassing the neighborhood near the accident site. They say Robert's brother approached police, and gave them a description of what he was wearing when he left the house last night.

His family told police that Robert told them he was walking to McDonald's, and left around 9:30 p.m.

Robert and his family had just moved to Port St. Lucie from Broward County, and was not yet enrolled in the local school district.

The driver involved in the crash stopped and called 911, and is not facing charges.

Assistant Chief Richard Del Toro said it was a very sensitive case, not knowing who the victim was.

"We may never know what happened, because obviously we can't talk to him and find out what his intentions were crossing the road. It appears he was standing in the middle of the road, in the median, and it was just an unfortunate tragedy," he said.
