NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) -- A New Jersey judge has ruled that a Port St. Lucie, Fla., mother convicted this year of killing her 5-year-old son in 1991 does not deserve a new trial.
State Superior Court Judge Dennis Nieves on Tuesday ruled against arguments from Michelle Lodzinski's attorney that she should either be acquitted or get a new trial.
Lodzinski faces life in prison after she was convicted of killing Timothy Wiltsey. Lodzinski, who was living in Florida, said he disappeared from a carnival in central New Jersey, then later claimed he was abducted.
She was charged in 2014 after witnesses identified a blanket found near the boy's body nearly a year after he disappeared.
Nieves says there's no evidence Lodzinski was denied justice and says that she had one of the best criminal defense attorneys. Gerald Krovatin argued that prosecutors relied on circumstantial evidence.
