The sentencing of Eriese Tisdale, the convicted killer of St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Gary Morales, has been postponed.

It had been scheduled for Friday at 9 a.m. in Fort Pierce.

Morales was shot and killed during a traffic stop in Fort Pierce in February 2013.

Tisdale was found guilty in October of first-degree murder, aggravated assault, possessing firearm as felon and fleeing law enforcement.

Recently the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Florida's system for sentencing people to death was unconstitutional because it gave too much power to judges and not enough to juries.

As a result the State Attorney's Office requested a continuance of the sentence and it was granted by Judge Vaughn.

A new court date has not been set.
