FORT PIERCE, Fla. -- A Fort Pierce man has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder in the death of a 34-year-old man.

Fort Pierce police arrived to investigate a homicide at 2905 Avenue D on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at approximately 8:50 p.m.

Police found several shell casings near the body of Jonathan Allan Maciel.

Maciel's live-in girlfriend, Ana Maria Calcagno, told police she was having a heated argument with Maciel over him speaking with another female through Facebook. Ana's daughter, Briana Wilson, arrived and witnessed the argument and started to argue with Maciel as well.

According to Calcagno's interview with police, Wilson might have called her boyfriend, Ashlyn Leon Salomon, who quickly arrived at the scene, leaving his vehicle in the middle of the parking lot.

Salomon and Maciel started to physically fight, according to Calcagno, and she and her daughter got in the middle of the altercation to separate the men.

Calcagno says the fight stopped and Salomon went into his vehicle while Maciel went inside his apartment. She says when Maciel exited the apartment, Salomon shot at him many times. She says Maciel collapsed and did not have any weapons in his hands.

Salomon told police in an interview that he couldn't see Maciel's hand once he exited the apartment. Salomon told police he believed Maciel had a gun in his hand, although he never saw one, and started shooting at Maciel when he was approximately five feet away from him. He says he kept shooting until he emptied his magazine.

According to the arrest report, Salomon said he then threw his handgun into his car, got inside the vehicle, and backed it up into a parking spot. Officers arrived at the scene and transported Salomon to the police station.

A detective who was at the crime scene said Maciel had at least seven gunshot wounds to his back and at least one to his face.

Ashlyn Leon Salomon was booked into the St. Lucie County Jail.
