Away from the course at the Honda Classic, hidden in a parking lot of trailers, is the team behind the players.

Jack Ulrich is a manufacturer with Ping whose job is to make sure their players have the best shot at winning.

“We’re kind of like the pit crew," Ulrich said. "If the guys need a re-grip, I compare that to maybe not having a bald tire (in racing).”

Jack and his team travel all across the country to bring the specialization of their company in Phoenix right to the player.

David Lingmerth is one of six golfers sponsored by PING playing in the Honda Classic. On Wednesday, he was in the truck adjusting the angles of his clubs.  He says it makes all the difference.

“It can make a huge difference, a degree or two of a change.  On a four iron, it could be the difference of 5, 10 or 15 yards," Lingmerth said.

Even though the crew may never hoist a trophy, they say they take great pride in what they do, because at the end of the day, they’re all a team.

“We’re not hitting the shots and these guys are, and we’re obviously not walking or carrying their bag, but when we’re watching them on TV, (you) kind of feel like you had a hand in that, (which) is pretty neat."
