A man who was turned down when he tried to buy a BMW with a credit card and Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card ended up stealing it instead, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.

Managers at a Pompano Beach dealership recently declined 36-year-old Nicholas Jackson's business. The next night the dealership was burglarized, keys to 60 vehicles disappeared and the BMW was missing.

Dispatched to answer a suspicious person call in Palm City Friday morning, Martin County deputies found a BMW, dozens of keys and Jackson.

Jackson didn't have money to fill the tank and had run out of gas near SW Baneberry Trail and SW High Meadows Avenue. Detectives say they were able to trace the car and keys back to the victimized dealership.

Jackson got a free lift to the Martin County Jail.

He’s charged with grand theft auto.
