‘Creepy Clown' sightings in Indian River County

Add Indian River County to the list of communities with ‘Creepy Clown’ sightings.

The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office says it has received a handful of 911 calls about ‘Creepy Clowns.’

The first was reported Wednesday, September 28th at 7:43 p.m. by a woman walking her dog who saw a clown behind a tree.

Thursday a father called and said his child and other children were chased by a person wearing a clown mask after they got off their school bus.

The sheriff’s office says both incidents were in Vero Lake Estates.

Also on Thursday there was call about a person wearing a clown mask and grey hooded sweatshirt near Florida Ridge.

Deputies found a twelve-year-old boy chasing his younger sister while wearing a clown mask. The sheriff’s office says their parents were notified.

The sheriff’s office says at 7:39 p.m. Thursday a child and a friend reportedly saw a clown on Oslo Road.

"We are aware that these 'Creepy Clown' sightings have been reported in several states over the past couple weeks. At this time we ask residents of Indian River County to talk to your children about personal safety. Teenagers and young adults who may be perpetrating these incidents should be aware of the dangers associated with activity such as this," said Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar in a statement.

The sheriff’s office asks that you call 9-1-1 immediately if you see any suspicious activity.
