Jerry Grogan says his son has a long to road to recovery, "Right after the accident, they were skeptical - nobody was telling us that he was going to make it."
It's been an emotional time for Jerry and Lindsay Grogan. Their son Austin hospitalized after a motorcycle accident on April 9th on Southern Boulevard and 441.
He had just left a car show with some friends. His mother said, "He broke both of his femur bones, shattered his one knee, he broke his ribs, he broke his scapula bone, they had to remove his spleen because of internal bleeding."
But today there was a glimmer of hope. "He was actually taken out of a coma today and he is breathing on his own for the first time in 12 days," she said.
Austin's parents say it's a miracle. A friend who is a paramedic stopped to help at the accident scene. But so did a stranger-- an off-duty paramedic they believe is from Broward County. The Grogans want to thank him.
Lindsay said, "Between him and my son's friend Andrew they got him prepared for Trauma Hawk and he's actually the one who called Trauma Hawk."
They believe the stranger's quick response helped their son. "I'm trying hard to find out who he is," Austin's father told us. His mother is just thankful their son is starting to recover, "We are just very thankful."
